Dr. Kim Smith-Whitley is a board certified pediatric hematologist with a focus on research and clinical work centered on sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait who currently serves as CMAO RWE, Patient Advocacy and External Collaboration at Pfizer. She is also co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Sickle Cell Reproductive Health Education Directive (SCRED). Most recently, she served as clinical director of hematology and director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Chief Medical Officer of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA). She has also served as a member of the National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Advisory Council and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Addressing Sickle Cell Disease Committee and is author of more than 80 peer-reviewed papers.

Victoria Gray was the 1st Sickle Cell Anemia patient in the world to be treated with CRISPR gene editing in 2019. After a lifetime of pain, treatments, and hospitalizations for Sickle Cell Disease, she is now symptom-free, working as a patient advocate and international speaker to spread the word about CRISPR and rare diseases to clinicians, scientists, patients, and students. Mrs. Gray is a wife and mother of four children and lives in Forest, Mississippi.
